Letters From Earthcamp

Dear Daddy,

Well, I’ve been here a week and I’m feeling a little better. Two of the camp counselors are especially nice to me—the camp cook is my favorite. I really like the food here; she says you gave her the recipe. I’m not so cold anymore and I’m getting used to the noise, but there is so much that I still have to learn! I just don’t think I’ll ever get it all. My bunkmates seem to like me, although they’ve all been here a lot longer and things don’t seem to worry them like they do me. I’ll try to be brave and make friends like you told me. I miss you so much.

Love,
your child

Dear Child of Mine,

I’m so glad that Earthcamp has gotten a little easier for you. I am proud of you for being so brave! I knew you’d like the food; it’s usually the best part of camp, at least at first. Your camp counselors and bunkmates love you so much; I picked them out especially for you, and they were so excited when I told them you would be coming. They will definitely do their best to help you out, so you should talk to them whenever you feel sad or lonely or confused. They are not perfect and they will let you down at times, but that’s only so you don’t depend on them more than upon me. You must remember that I am always thinking of you and that I have special things for you to do while you’re at Earthcamp; never doubt how important you are!  Your letters bring a smile to my face, dear one, so don’t stop writing.

Love,
Daddy

Oh, man, this little “series” of yours just wrings my heart. I do always wonder what everything looks like to the new one in our family.

Your Earthcamp letters bring me to tears. Such sweet beauty.

“Your letters bring a smile to my face, dear one, so don’t stop writing.”

Yeah, they make me smile, too!

I love these Earthcamp letters! Keep ‘em coming!

Have you done these letters before with other kids? I love this! What a precious way to stop and look at this beautiful, though difficult, phase of life through different eyes. Love it!!

Hi! i found you from RiMD when you were giving birth, and i’m loving your blog!

i’m just wondering though: not to seem stupid, but is one of your children really at an Earthcamp? Or is it a beautiful metaphor for life? Or is it a metaphor like our lives and the parent is God?

Anyway, i really enjoy your blog, and you seem like an excellent mother and i really admire your sweet Spirit. Have a wonderful day!

Jessica,

Yes to the third one ;o)

Jenni

Jenni, keep the Earthcamp letters coming, how beautiful! I love how you can reveal in the beauty of your new son knowing he is a gift from our Lord! Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you for sharing these!

These bring tears to my eyes! I have a couple of friends who just had babies close to me and they will love these letters.

Blessings!

Ummm….currently sitting here with tears streaming down my face. I’d like to blame it on the pregnancy hormones, but I think you’re actually just gifted. Loving the Earthcamp letters.

I wish I’d thought of this a long time ago…what a way to remind the world how much God loves them…

I LOVE these Earthcamp letters- what a cool concept! I hope you’re printing them & saving them for your son- how sweet for him to have when he’s older!!!

These are sooo beautiful!! I could so see a book of these letters. You should check with a publisher–you are truly talented.

This is my first one to read, but it is so piercingly touching. I loved it and plan to watch for more. Thanks for sharing.

Have you seen the letter about the child leaving to come to Earth and his conversation with God before he leaves? It reminds me of these beautiful earthcamp letters. You so wonderfully capture a newborn’s feelings and how I think God would respond. What I can’t understand is how with a one week-old and 11 other children you have found time to write such beautiful and poetic prose about life and a baby! Kudos for being such a loving heart to all of your children.

Mmmmm - I just love this series of letters. What a sweet way to express how you little one might feel and what God might just be thinking. So creative! These would make a GREAT book - to give as a gift to your child when he is older.

“They are not perfect and they will let you down at times, but that’s only so you don’t depend on them more than upon me. ”

The best part of this letter- so sweet, sad, comforting and true all at the same time!

Lovely, Jenni. Your Earthcamp letters make me smile and even get a little choked up inside. :-)

And I agree with everyone else ~ you are incredibly talented.

I love these, they always make me teary eyed and make my heart just a little more tender.

I love that you have started this series. Amazed that you are able to write so much after giving birth a week ago, but am so thankful you are sharing this precious perspective.

So beautifully written and true!

Jenni, I love these.
